Bible Hill Kinsmen Power Play Program Presentations

The Bible Hill Kinsmen were on hand at the Truro Bearcats game against the Amherst Ramblers on March 9th to present the results of the 2018-19 Bible Hill Kinsmen Power Play Program.

This year, the Kinsmen are donating $4,300 to seven charities: CEC Scholarship Fund, Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada – N.S. Chapter, Colchester Food Bank, Colchester East Hants Hospice Society, Truro Boys and Girls Club, Multiple Sclerosis Society (Atlantic Division), and Cystic Fibrosis Canada – Scotia Chapter.

In the 17 years of the program, the Bible Hill Kinsmen, in partnership with the Truro Bearcats, has donated $79,800.

Hello from the Bible Hill Kinsmen!

The 5th Annual Great Trivia Challenge is just days away and we can’t be more excited. More than 40 tables of eight people each will be at the Best Western Glengarry to test their knowledge of random facts and information. Proceeds of this event will go towards the Central Nova Women’s Resource Centre’s Girl Power summer camps, which offer empowerment activities, science experiments, recreation and physical activities, arts and crafts, and support for young women in our area.

Once again, the community has come out in a big way to support the event and for that we say thank you. From teams entered, to prizes donated for the silent auction, to a number of other ways to pitch in, you continue to make this a showcase event. We hope everyone involved has a great time this Saturday.

In conjunction with the Heritage Day holiday, our club was able to secure the Rath Eastlink Community Centre for an hour in honour of the National Day of KINdness. It sounded like one and all had a great time on February 19th, whether that was one the ice in the rink, in the pool, or making use of the climbing wall.

Capping off a busy month was a night of fun and fellowship at the Best Western Glengarry with the celebration of Founder’s Night. The evening marked the creation of our club and the 98 years since the founding of Kin Canada. One of our long-standing members, Glen MacKenzie, was presented with a Lifetime Membership award, which is the highest honour we can bestow. Caught off guard, and with his family sneaking in from around the province, the smile on his face spoke one thousand words. Glen’s commitment to the club and the community are something we gladly acknowledge, as we have with all past Lifetime Membership recipients, and look forward to his continued involvement as a member of the Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill.

The Bible Hill Kinsmen’s partnership with the Truro Junior A Bearcats has continued once again this year with the Power Play Program. Now in its 16th year, the club donates $100 for each Bearcats home game and up that to $200 if the team scores a powerplay goal that night. A charity is chosen for each home game and they rotate throughout the season. The presentation of funds will be held in the pre-game ceremony on March 9th as Truro host Yarmouth.

We’d love to see you at one of our meetings. The Bible Hill Kinsmen hold meetings on the first and third Thursday of the month, from September to June, at 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. Greetings from the Bible Hill Kinsmen!

We’re just days away from the 4th Annual Great Trivia Challenge. Last minute preparations are underway and we can’t wait to see everyone as the massive room at the Best Western Glengarry fills up Saturday night. It was humbling to see how quickly you, the community, responded to this event and how many names were be added to a wait list. Thank you for your part in making this a fun evening. We will, as usual, have a balloon pop and silent auction to along with food, music, and a cash bar. Proceeds of this event will once again go towards the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation’s “We Care About Cancer” Fund and other community projects.

The National Day of KINdness was last weekend, and we invited you to join us at the outdoor ice surface at Truro’s Civic Square. We worked with the Great British Grub at the Farmer’s Market to cover the cost of the first 100 hot chocolate and hot dogs served by Great British Grub at the Market.

Capping off a busy and exciting month was a night of fun and fellowship as a number of our members and their partners celebrated the beginning of the Kin Association 97 years ago and the start of Kin in Truro and Bible Hill.

2016-17 Power Play Program Donations

The Bible Hill Kinsmen marked the 15th year of the Power Play Program last night before the Truro Bearcats game against the Amherst Ramblers. Cheques were presented to seven groups and organizations, totaling $5,000 for the 2016-17 Maritime Hockey League season.

The Kinsmen donate $100 at every home game, or $200 if the Bearcats score a powerplay goal that night. A charity is chosen for each home game and they rotate throughout the season.

The charities this season were the CEC Scholarship Fund, the Children’s Wish Foundation, the Colchester Food Bank, the Colchester-East Hants Hospice Society, the Truro Boys and Girls Club, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

In the 15 seasons of this partnership with the Truro Bearcats, the Bible Hill Kinsmen have now donated $70,800! It’s just one more way the Kinsmen continue to live up to the motto “Serving the Community’s Greatest Need”.

The Bible Hill Kinsmen were in attendance at the Truro Bearcats game tonight against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers to present cheques totaling $4,800 to multiple organizations through the Powerplay Program.

Now in it’s 14th year, the Bible Hill Kinsmen donate $100 per home game or $200 if the Bearcats score a powerplay goal that night. A charity is chosen for each home game and they rotate throughout the season.
