The 5th Annual Great Trivia Challenge was a huge success earlier this month, and today the Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill presented a cheque to this year’s major recipient: the Central Nova Women’s Resource Centre (CNWRC). These proceeds are targeted for the Girl Power Summer Camps.

On hand for the donation were (from left to right): Kinsmen members Allison MacDonald, Perry Kohler, and project Chair Mark Thibedeau, CNWRC Executive Director Tracey Dorrington-Skinner, Kinsmen Peter Taylor and Brent Pettis, and CNWRC Office Manager Michaela MacLachlan.

As anyone who attended the event can attest, the volunteers from the CNWRC were a huge part of the evening and ensured we were able to have our most successful trivia night to date. Thank you for all of your support.

The rest of this year’s proceeds will be distributed back into the community through various Kinsmen initiatives.

5th Annual Great Trivia Challenge

With 44 tables sold, this year’s Great Trivia Challenge at the Best Western Glengarry was the biggest in the event’s five-year history! We can do all the planning in the world, but the continued support of the community makes nights like last night such a smashing success. The Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill says it a lot, but that you so much to everyone who bought a table, donated a prize for the silent auction, volunteered to help, took a chance on the 50/50 and balloon pop, and everything in-between. We hope everyone had a lot of fun and we can’t wait to see you back again next year!

The Central Nova Women’s Resource Centre were this year’s major recipient from the Great Trivia Challenge, and thank you to them for the number of volunteers they brought to help out. Their proceeds are targeted for the Girl Power Summer Camps, with the rest being distributed back into the community through various Kinsmen initiatives.

So what about the top teams? Well, as announced at the end of the night, The Pen Is Mightier finished 3rd with 87 points. The HR Hellraisers followed up a 2nd place finish at least year’s event with another 2nd place outing at 88 points. But then the controversy started! The Insane Trivia Posse had 92 points, but unfortunately they were skipped over somehow in the final tally. So that bumps The Pen is Mightier to 4th and the HR Hellraisers to 3rd. Our apologies to the team that they didn’t get their announced moment in the sun, but they did get a team picture, which we’ve added to the gallery below. The trivia team spoke with them afterward and we’ll make it up to them.

That brings us to the winning team. With a whopping 97 questions answered correctly (they only got THREE wrong!?), it’s the Ice Hogs! They finally won the event after a 2nd place finish last year and 3rd place in 2016. Congratulations!

The Ice Hogs are the winners of the 5th Annual Great Trivia Challenge!

We had another fantastic night putting on the Great Trivia Challenge and hope you did as well. If you have any feedback on the evening, we’d love to hear from you. Email trivia@biblehillkinsmen.ca. If you attended last night and wonder what it’s like to be a member of the Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill, contact a Kinsmen member you know or feel free to either attend one of our meetings or email us at info@biblehillkinsmen.ca. We meet the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre.

Kinsmen Report: February 2018

Hello from the Bible Hill Kinsmen!

The 5th Annual Great Trivia Challenge is just days away and we can’t be more excited. More than 40 tables of eight people each will be at the Best Western Glengarry to test their knowledge of random facts and information. Proceeds of this event will go towards the Central Nova Women’s Resource Centre’s Girl Power summer camps, which offer empowerment activities, science experiments, recreation and physical activities, arts and crafts, and support for young women in our area.

Once again, the community has come out in a big way to support the event and for that we say thank you. From teams entered, to prizes donated for the silent auction, to a number of other ways to pitch in, you continue to make this a showcase event. We hope everyone involved has a great time this Saturday.

In conjunction with the Heritage Day holiday, our club was able to secure the Rath Eastlink Community Centre for an hour in honour of the National Day of KINdness. It sounded like one and all had a great time on February 19th, whether that was one the ice in the rink, in the pool, or making use of the climbing wall.

Capping off a busy month was a night of fun and fellowship at the Best Western Glengarry with the celebration of Founder’s Night. The evening marked the creation of our club and the 98 years since the founding of Kin Canada. One of our long-standing members, Glen MacKenzie, was presented with a Lifetime Membership award, which is the highest honour we can bestow. Caught off guard, and with his family sneaking in from around the province, the smile on his face spoke one thousand words. Glen’s commitment to the club and the community are something we gladly acknowledge, as we have with all past Lifetime Membership recipients, and look forward to his continued involvement as a member of the Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill.

The Bible Hill Kinsmen’s partnership with the Truro Junior A Bearcats has continued once again this year with the Power Play Program. Now in its 16th year, the club donates $100 for each Bearcats home game and up that to $200 if the team scores a powerplay goal that night. A charity is chosen for each home game and they rotate throughout the season. The presentation of funds will be held in the pre-game ceremony on March 9th as Truro host Yarmouth.

We’d love to see you at one of our meetings. The Bible Hill Kinsmen hold meetings on the first and third Thursday of the month, from September to June, at 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. If you’re interested in joining us for a meeting, or would like more information, email president@biblehillkinsmen.ca.
