Happy Holidays from the Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill

Happy Holidays from the Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill!

We would like to thank you for supporting our annual Kinsmen Teddy Bear Toss with the Truro Jr. A Bearcats. During the November 30th game against the South Shore Lumberjacks, a record-breaking 341 teddy bears rained down on the ice after Bearcats winger Cole Julian scored 4:20 into the first period. All bears collected will be donated to children in Colchester County through the Christmas Index.

In addition to the Teddy Bear Toss, the Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill also supports several families through the Christmas Index by purchasing toys and other gifts for under the tree, and boxes of food for a delicious holiday feast. The annual Christmas Index shopping trip is something our members look forward to – we get just as excited to play with the toys as the children who receive them!

Do you have plans for New Year’s Eve? Consider spending it with Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Burton Cummings. Use promo code “KINSMEN” when you buy your tickets and $10 from each one sold will be donated to our club! Join us at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre to welcome 2020, and support our community’s greatest need. Visit www.biblehillkinsmen.ca for more information and a link to purchase tickets.

As 2019 comes to a close we have been reflecting on what an incredible year it has been for our club, and we owe it all to our community! We cannot thank you enough for supporting our community initiatives and fundraisers such as the Colchester Book Fair, the Kinsmen Kanteen at the NSPE, and The Great Trivia Challenge. The 2020 edition of The Great Trivia Challenge will be held on February 29th, and, due to the popularity of this event, we are anticipating yet another sell-out! Don’t miss your chance to play; more information on how to secure your team’s spot will be released in January.

The Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas, and all the best in the new year. Looking for a New Year’s Resolution? Why not get more involved in your community? Join the Kinsmen Club; we meet on the first and third Thursday of the month, from September to June, at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. Visit one of our meetings, or email president@biblehillkinsmen.ca to learn more.

Kinsmen Report: September 2018

Hello everyone!

September is here, which means the Bible Hill Kinsmen are planning out our 44th year as a club. Life member John Spears will serve his third term as club president this year. Between projects big and small, where we’d like some of our donations to go, planning large Kinsmen gatherings in the area, and other volunteer work, the 2018-19 Kin year is shaping up to be a busy one.

Thank you to everyone who stopped in at the Kanteen during the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition. Whether it was a meal, a slice of pizza, or just a drink, our members were once again happy to serve. The Kanteen reopened during the Colchester Highland Games and Gathering.

It was a on a somber note that we dedicated a piece of the Kanteen to a member we lost too soon. We’ve spoken about Kevin Croft a lot in the past year, following his untimely death in late 2017. He was an integral part of our club, and during the Exhibition he would set up shop at the grill for the week.

The Kinsmen Club of Bible Hill meets on the first and third Thursday of the month, from September to June, at 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. If you’re interested in joining us for a meeting, or would like more information, email president@biblehillkinsmen.ca.

Kinsmen Report: September 2017

Greetings from the Bible Hill Kinsmen! September is almost over already and we’ve started our new Kin year by getting back to our meetings and planning what’s sure to be an exciting year.

Looking back at the summer, we were once again proud to take part in the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition. Our Kinsmen Kanteen was as busy as ever, which of course means we need to say a big thank you to everyone who came by for a slice of pizza, a burger and fries, poutine, or maybe just a drink. Exhibition week remains our biggest, and longest running fundraiser, which helps our club give that money right back to the community through a number of initiatives. We say it every year, but the celebrations and events get bigger and better and we can’t wait to see what next year has in store.

Dave Gillis was elected club president for this year, and has been excited to hit the ground running. A number of projects are planned, including our Trivia Night, now in its 5th year (can you believe it?), and the Book Fair. Stay tuned for details on those and more.

Perry Kohler is our vice-president for 2017-18. The rest of the executive members are myself, Quinn McCarthy, Allison MacDonald, Henry Vissers, Stephen Hamlin, Brad McCallum, Peter Taylor, and Perry Kienzle. It’s also worth mentioning that one of our members, Geoff Hamlin, is serving as Deputy Governor for our Kin zone this year. It’s a lot of work and a huge honour, but is very exciting.

Giving back to the community where we live and raise our families is an important part of what we, as Kinsmen, do. Adding to that is the fellowship between our members. On that note, we’re holding an Open House/Buddy Night on October 5th. It’s a chance for anyone who has an interest in joining the Kinsmen to get a closer look at what it is we do and meet members of the club. It’s our first meeting of the month and there’s a meal beforehand.

Even if you can’t make it out for the 5th, we’d still love to have you at one of our meetings. They’re held the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30pm at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. If you’re interested in attending, or would like more information, email president@biblehillkinsmen.com, check us out on Facebook, or visit our website, biblehillkinsmen.ca.

Kinsmen Report: September

Hello again from the Bible Hill Kinsmen! We’d like to welcome you back into your school or work routine after a busy summer where we were proud to be a part of a number of celebrations and events in the community.

Going all the way back to July, the Kinsmen once again had a dunk tank set up during Canada Day in Bible Hill, where we collected donations for a number of charities in exchange for dunking a number of community leaders who generously donated their time. It was such a hot day that we’re sure they were chomping at the bit to let you dunk them so they could stay nice and cool. The celebration keeps getting bigger and better with each passing year, and hope that continues.

The Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition marked a major milestone this year with its 70th anniversary. The revamped event was busier than ever, and you kept us busy in the Kinsmen Kanteen. There was rarely a slow moment for our volunteers, and we owe that all to you. Your continued support of one of our major fundraisers will ensure we can continue to follow our motto of “Serving the Community’s Greatest Need”. Money raised will be going right back into the Truro/Colchester County area through monetary donations to various charitable and non-profit organizations. The Kanteen will surely be busy again on September 30th and October 1st during the 39th Nova Scotia 4-H Show.

Giving back to the community where we live and raise our families is an important part of what we, as Kinsmen, do. Adding to that is the fellowship between our members. On that note, we’re holding a Buddy Night on October 6th. It’s a chance for people who have an interest in joining the Kinsmen to get a closer look at what it is we do. It’s our first meeting of the month and there’s a meal beforehand.

Even if you can’t make Buddy Night, we’d still love to have you at one of our meetings. They’re held the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30pm at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. If you’re interested in attending, or would like more information, email president@biblehillkinsmen.com.
