2017 Great Trivia Challenge

The Bible Hill Kinsmen invite you to a fun-filled evening on Saturday March 4th, 2017 at 7:30pm at the Best Western Glengarry in Truro.

The Bible Hill Kinsmen along with a special guest will host the 4th Annual “The Great Trivia Challenge”. This is an event where teams of 8 people – co-workers, friends, or family – will come together to play rounds of trivia. We anticipate having 40 teams competing against each other and testing their knowledge in sports, music, entertainment, history, and more! There will be lots of food, music, a cash bar, and a silent auction that will take place throughout the night.

“The Great Trivia Challenge” will be one of our largest fund-raisers of the year. For the second year in a row, proceeds of this event will go towards the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation’s “We Care About Cancer Fund” and other community projects.

Being diagnosed with cancer means a lot of things; travel, medication, fatigue and fear just to name a few. For some who struggle to make ends meet, the diagnosis of cancer also means an added expense that they simply can’t afford. That’s why the “We Care About Cancer” Fund was created – to help those diagnosed with cancer worry less about the financial burden so they can focus on healing. “For those in our local community who are falling through the cracks – like the people who don’t qualify for supplements, are single parents, under 65 years old and have huge co-pays or are in between wait times for benefits to come into effect –this fund makes a world of difference. Their decision to undergo treatment is made easier because we can help them with gas to get there, the furnace oil to keep them warm or the groceries to keep them fed. They don’t have to choose one over the other,” says Darlene Holmes, Cancer Patient Navigator. It’s a long road to recovery when battling cancer, emotionally as well as financially.

The registration fee is $300.00. Click here to view a printable version of the registration form. Get your team registered early, support a great cause, and enjoy “The Great Trivia Challenge!”

Thank you in advance,
David Gillis
Kinsmen Chairperson of “The Great Trivia Challenge”

Kinsmen Report: April

The Bible Hill Kinsmen recently presented a $6,000 cheque to the We Care About Cancer Fund earlier this month.

The proceeds came from the Great Trivia Challenge, which was held in February. Thanks to everyone who came out for that event and supported this great cause. The rest of the money raised from that event will be distributed by the Kinsmen through our various initiatives in the community.

April is rolling on and spring has finally arrived. That means it’s time to look ahead to the annual Kinsmen pork chop dinner. It will be held May 19 at the Bible Hill Village Hall from 4:30 to 6 p.m. All Kinsmen members have tickets or you can email porkchop@biblehillkinsmen.ca. The pork chops are from Ebbett’s Meadow Brook Farm Market in Tatamagouche. The dinner also includes a baked potato, coleslaw, a roll and piece of pie.

We’d also like to say thank you for your continued support of the kindness meters in downtown Truro. It’s been a huge success so far and we will soon be looking at switching recipients of the money which you’re generously donating in these meters.

The Bible Hill Kinsmen hold meetings on the first and third Thursday of the month, from September to June, at 7:30 p.m. We’d love to see you there. If you’re interested in joining us for a meeting, or would like more information, email president@biblehillkinsmen.ca.

Kinsmen Report: March

Hello all, it’s Fernando from the Bible Hill Kinsmen. What a February and March we had! I hope you’re all enjoying the abnormally warm snowless days!

February was a busy month with several events, which culminated at the end of the month with the 3rd Annual Great Trivia Challenge at the Best Western Glengarry. It was a night of prizes, food, and of course a trivia showdown. The night consisted of ten rounds of trivia with ten questions per round. The winning team was the Captain Crunch & the Cereal Killers from New Glasgow Kinsmen (and no we didn’t give them the answers), who posted a score of 95 correct answers, wow! Hot on their heels were the crew from Icehogs who scored 94 and rounding out the top three was the Smartie Pints with 92. There were over 320 people in teams of eight playing and raising money for the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation’s “We Care About Cancer” Fund and other community projects supported by the Kinsmen.

There was a balloon pop, where the grand prize was a $750 Inglis Jewelers gift certificate, as well as a silent auction with a great collection of prizes and there was also a 50/50 draw. In the end, the Kinsmen were able to donate $6,000 to Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation. Keep an eye out for this event again next year, and make sure you get your table in early as we sold out quickly this year. Thank you to everyone who took part and to those who volunteered with us to help make the night a huge success.

We put on a free skate and swim on the 21st of February at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in celebration of National KINdness Day. The turnout was excellent and we hope all enjoyed the day.

Tickets for our annual Pork Chop dinner will soon be making their way out. It will be held on Thursday, May 19th, so get your tickets early.

The Bible Hill Kinsmen meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. If you think you might be interested in joining us for a meeting please contact: president@biblehillkinsmen.com.

2016 Great Trivia Challenge

The Bible Hill Kinsmen hosted our 3rd Annual Great Trivia Challenge at the Best Western Glengarry in Truro last night.  A total of 43 teams took part to help raise money for the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation’s “We Care About Cancer” fund and other community groups supported by the Kinsmen.

Each of the ten rounds consisted of ten questions. At the end of the night,  Captain Crunch and the Cereal Killers were declared this year’s winners. The team was entered by the New Glasgow Kinsmen, showing the great support our clubs lend each other throughout the year. They had 95 correct answer, edging The Ice Hogs who had 94, and the Smartie Pints who had 92.

Thank you to everyone who took part and supported our event, either by entering a team, through donations to our silent auction and balloon pop, or other efforts. Your help makes this a very special night for all of us.

Kinsmen Report: February

Hello once again from the Bible Hill Kinsmen!

It’s almost here and we’re very excited to be hosting the 3rd Annual Great Trivia Challenge. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and it’s “all hand’s on deck” for the Bible Hill Kinsmen as we get this event up and running. So mark this date on your calendar: Saturday, February 27th at 7:30 p.m. at the Best Western Glengarry. There are still a few tables left, so get a team together for a wonderful night of fun and a chance to win some great prizes. This year proceeds will go to the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation’s “We Care about Cancer Fund” and other community projects. Put on your thinking caps and come and join us! For more information, contact Geoff Hamlin at trivia@biblehillkinsmen.ca

While that’s our big event for this month, we’re never idle. The National Day of KINdness is Sunday, February 21st. The Kinsmen are holding an open skate and swim from 3 to 4 p.m. that day at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre. Whether you want to strap on your skates, or take a dip in the pool, come on out and enjoy!

We are still running the KINdness meters located throughout downtown Truro, and we’d like to thank all those that took the time to deposit their loose change in helping us support all of our initiatives. We are always “serving the communities greatest needs”.

If you are interested in joining the Bible Hill Kinsmen we hold meetings on the first and third Thursday of the month, from September to June, at 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. We’d love to see you there. If you’re interested in joining us for a meeting, or would like more information, email president@biblehillkinsmen.ca.

Kinsmen Report: January

Hello once again from the Bible Hill Kinsmen!

The club is busy getting everything ready for the 3rd Annual Great Trivia Challenge. The event, one of our major fundraisers of the year, takes place February 27th at 7:30 p.m. at the Best Western Glengarry. Proceeds of this event will go towards the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation’s “We Care About Cancer Fund” and other community projects.

We anticipate having 40 teams competing against each other and testing their knowledge in sports, music, entertainment, history, and more! There will be lots of food, music, a cash bar, and a silent auction that will take place throughout the night.

Quite a few teams from last year have re-entered, but there is still room for more. If you’d like to submit a team of eight people for the event, at a cost of $300 per team, email us at trivia@biblehillkinsmen.ca.

On a more somber note, Kinsmen past and present mourned the loss of Terry Hunt last month. A Past-President of the Bible Hill Kinsmen themselves, Terry was a giant in the community both literally and figuratively. He was well-respected in the community and through Kin for his tireless dedication to volunteerism and promoting the area and region. As a member of the Kinsmen, Terry was also a part of a number of executive committees, and took part in zone and business meetings. He was always willing to help the club however he could, and our community has lost a great ambassador. His passing was especially felt in the club as our current President, Drew Douglas, is his nephew.

The Bible Hill Kinsmen hold meetings on the first and third Thursday of the month, from September to June, at 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. We’d love to see you there. If you’re interested in joining us for a meeting, or would like more information, email president@biblehillkinsmen.ca.
